Following a 2hr van transfer we will arrive at our accommodation for the next three nights in Fruili province. There will be time to prepare/fit the bikes and enjoy a warm-up ride!

During the evening there will be a tour briefing and a welcome dinner with the Sierra guides.

Destinations: Fruili

Ride: 40km cycling

Accommodation: Fruili province (Italy)

DAY TWO – Friday 18 May 2018

Today you will be initiated on the Zoncolan climb one day before the pro peloton! With climb statistics that put it in the same league as Mortirolo (Italy) or Angliru (Spain) it is one ‘out and out’ challenge. The western approach is considered the most difficult – 10.5km with an average grade of 11.5%. The final 6km though average 15% with a maximum ramp of 20%. The eastern approach is not that much easier, however, its 13.5km with an average grade of 9% look a lot more achievable on paper.

By cycling the Zoncolan today ahead of the Giro race means no enormous crowds lining these narrow roads and preventing your day to shine! The Zoncolan was only first added to the Giro´s repertoire in 2003 and has seen 5 race outings with Australian Michael Rogers taking the last stage win in 2014!

Meals: Breakfast

Destinations: Zoncolan

Ride: 80km cycling

Accommodation: Fruili (Italy)

This morning following breakfast there will be a hotel loop ride through the Parque Naturale Regionale delle Dolomiti Friulane. For those looking for more they can always continue cycling up the Zoncolan again!

With big crowds always hugging the mountain for a Giro stage our suggestion is to join us for a short van transfer and with some comfortable walking shoes enjoy an afternoon watching the pro peloton at only arm´s length away!

As you arrive to Zoncolan you will start to feel the Giro atmosphere building. The final general classification places will be on the line today and we will be ready to get you close to all of the action!

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner included

Destinations: Zoncolan

Ride: 100km cycling

Accommodation: Fruili (Italy)

DAY FOUR – Sunday 20 May 2018
Giro Stage 15 - Passo Tre Croci

Cycling from the hotel today we leave Fruili in search of the Dolomitas de Auronzo and the famous Passo Tre Croci climb just out of Cortina d’Ampezzo.  The majestic Lake Misurina sits at the top of the climb at a staggering 1760m elevation and is the perfect place for a picnic lunch stop.

For those who would like an added challenge try your hand at the final 7km ascent to Tre Cime Lavaredo (average 8% grade). The numbers do not tell the true story though as the final 4km average 12%. On arriving to the Auronzo Refuge at 2300m the sheer size and beauty of the Tre Cime will take over! Back roadside and you will have a great vantage point to watch the peloton summit the Category 1 Tre Croci climb.

Meals: Breakfast included

Destinations: Misurina

Ride: 90km cycling

Accommodation: Badia (Dolomites, Italy)

DAY FIVE – Monday 21 May 2018
Sella Ronda Loop

One of the world´s most iconic cycling routes is on offer today: the Sella Ronda loop and what better day than to achieve this during a Giro d’Italia rest day!! There are 4 steps to become a member of the Sella Ronda club: Passo Gardena, Sella, Campolongo and Pordoi.

Don´t let the relatively low km count trick you today as each pass goes accumulating elevation. The views of the jagged limestone peaks and winding roads will be etched into your memory for a lifetime!

The chance to link up with the 2018 Giro race exists again tomorrow so there will be a 2hr transfer to Trento this afternoon.

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner included

Destinations: Sella Ronda

Ride: 70km cycling

Accommodation: Trento (Italy)

DAY SIX – Tuesday 22 May 2018
Giro Stage 16 - Time Trial

The Giro during 2017 was decided when Tom Dumoulin executed a near perfect time trial during Stage 21 in Milan to win the 100th Giro Anniversary. This year’s Stage 16 Individual Time Trial to Rovereto will be equally as important only 5 days before the 2018 race finish in Rome.

This Giro stage not only provides exceptional access to the pro teams and riders as they warm up one by one outside their respective team buses but it will also be set to shape the GC podium as we know it!

Meals: Breakfast included

Destinations: Rovereto

Ride: 85km cycling

Accommodation: Trento (Italy)

DAY SEVEN – Wed 23 May 2018

Today we say our goodbyes to the Giro race as it moves south but the cycling tour action does not let up! Without the time restrictions of intersecting the Giro, today´s ride is our Queen Stage with up to 120km up for grabs. The Fugazze climb bringing us towards Vicenza is through a wooded forest with impressive rock walls and simply put is a cycling masterpiece!

Finishing our tour with two nights in Vicenza is also a real luxury. The city centre is UNESCO heritage listed and by many is known as Palladio´s city. This famous Italian architect has left his fingerprints throughout the old centre and dining in one of its plazas or narrow streets is a true highlight!

Meals: Breakfast included

Destinations: Folgaria

Ride: 120km cycling

Accommodation: Vicenza (Veneto, Italy)

DAY EIGHT – Thur 24 May 2018

Immediately to the south of Vicenza are the undulating Colli Berici hills. The route we have in store for you on the undulating, twisting and turning roads will be a great way to finish the tour on a high!  Over the last five years this region has been a favourite with Giro d´Italia race organisers. With many 3-5km climbs on offer and the short steep Monte Berico on the city’s outskirts means interesting stage finishes have been created. Today´s ride very much resembles a Spring Classics style route like you see in Maastricht and Amstel Gold terrain!

Tonight in many ways will be a celebration of many great individual cycling accomplishments, friendships formed and Giro d’Italia appreciation! There is only one way to mark the occasion in true style and that is with a celebratory Spritz!

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner included

Destinations: Monte Berico

Ride: 90km cycling

Accommodation: Vicenza (Veneto, Italy)

DAY NINE – Friday 25 May 2018
Tour Farewell

Following breakfast your guides will say their goodbyes and be able to transfer you to Marco Polo Airport (Venice) by 11:00am. We hope you enjoyed your 2018 Giro Cycling Holiday and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Meals: Breakfast

Cycle northern Italy where the Maglia Rosa always earns its keep!
Sierra Sports & Tours is looking forward to showcasing 3 of the most important stages of the 2018 Giro d'Italia. Stages 14 and 15 take the peloton into the big mountains and Monte Zoncolan and Passo Tre Croci (amongst others) will be sure to upset the General Classification standings. The Stage 16 individual time trial from Trento to Rovereto is essentially flat and will also allow specialists, such as, Tom Dumoulin and Chris Froome to try and put their stamp on the race.

Yes, you read it correctly, Chris Froome has confirmed his participation in the 2018 Giro! It has been quite a hiatus for the Team Sky grand tour leader who has only ridden the Giro in 2009 and 2010. His motivation comes two-fold: first, to become only the third rider in history to hold all three Grand Tour (Giro, Tour & Vuelta) titles at the same time, and secondly, to go for the 2018 Giro-Tour double after recent unsuccessful attempts by Contador (2015) and Quintana (2017). With 3 time trial stages during the 2018 Giro perhaps Froome is in with a chance!

Dates: 17-05-2018 to 25-05-2018

Tour price: 3200 € per person (twin share)

When you have 16 crazy cyclist´s from Australia who want to cycle Europe, Who do you call? Paul from Sierra Sports. The Giro itself was a highlight far more than I expected. It was great seeing the riders up close and the amount of access at the track and on the road I found amazing. The group was a lot of fun, the tour was a great experience. The riding, the tour guides, the Giro I can’t wait to come back.
  • Jos & Judy(Melbourne), 2013
